When I first met my wife, she lived in Lake City. She didn't spend much time in the mountains. I introduced her to getting away to places that are more quiet and exponentially less busy than places like the national parks.
Finding small campsites at the ends of poorly maintained forrest service and logging roads have been a reliable place for us to get away together and truly relax. If we are camping, or just spending the day in the mountains cooking some lunch and hiking around with our dogs, it seems to always be a place with fewer worries than our normal day-to-day life.
